There are many varities of flowers and flowering plants at Mounts Gardens and many tropical plants that only grow here in South Florida. This is an unusual place for a wedding venue and pictures. Tell the bride and groom to bring their cameras and the guests.

These are some beautiful orchids and many are for sale at Mounts. I had performed several weddings at the American Orchid Society in Delray beach, but they are no longer accepting applications for weddings there and will no longer host weddings and cease to be a wedding venue. The American Orchid Society no longer does weddings as of September 2010. You can have your outside wedding in a garden here in the great outdoors and the midst of tropical beauty. Have your wedding in a garden setting and start your marriage off right. I say bring the digital camera for the wedding photography as any one can make great pictures and images in this place. You can be a nature and wedding photographer. Your nature settings are a great place for the flowers and the homegrown bouquet still connected to the plants.

• Marvin Umphrey “Red” Mounts was the founder of the botanical gardens. Mr. Mounts was born in 1898 and he died in 1969. Mr. Mounts was born in Tonkawa, Oklahoma In 1925 Mr. Mounts was able to graduate from the agricultural college at the University of Florida. He was then hired as the first assistant agricultural extension agent in Palm Beach County. He took it to task to try to give farmers an education and training in modern scientific farming methods and the very latest in agricultural research.

• Mr. Mounts became the county’s chief extension agent in 1929 and when he finally retired in 1965, Palm Beach County’s agricultural industry had explosive growth and had grown from $2 million to $120 million annually. We are known as the US winter vegetable garden and Mr. Mounts had a great deal of the credit in making this possible. He taught farmers how to use a grass for cattle grazing that held up on wet soil that he introduced. He and taught farmers about marketing and He was responsible for and formed the first chartered 4-H Club in Florida and also worked in helping to establish the Audubon Society of the Everglades. He was an environmentalist and conservationist before it was fashionable. It sounds like he was a remarkable man that did his best for the local community and the farmers.
